The mission of the Frankfort.net initiative is to provide the Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce members with the education and technology necessary to understand and implement Internet related technologies. The initiative is free of charge to Frankfort Area Chamber members who are in good standing with the Chamber and who have also joined the initiative as a member. "There is no single tool more essential to success in today's and tomorrow's economy than the Internet," said Mary Ellis, executive director of Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce. "Access to and capabilities with the Internet will benefit businesses of all types and sizes. Electronic commerce is opening doors to new revenue potential, while e-mail is revolutionizing communication and responsiveness to customers." As of October 2000, only about 30% of the Frankfort business community regularly uses e-mail and the Internet, and even less have a web presence. Recognizing that Frankfort's economy needs to embrace new technologies in order to achieve continued long-term growth, the Frankfort.net Initiative seeks to raise this statistic to above 50% within the first year and continue to do so each and every following year until Frankfort area is completely wired. In order to provide the community with a greater understanding of the initiative's partners, a biography for each Frankfort.net partner is listed below. Enjoy a look into the promising future of Frankfort. |

DCR.NET: Drew Curtis is President and CEO of DCR.NET. He has a degree Computer Science from Luther College in Decorah, IA, and is a Kentucky native, born and raised. He worked for several months for the Department of Personnel for Kentucky State Government until he hit the experience-based pay-scale glass ceiling, and decided to work elsewhere. At the time, there was no unlimited Internet access in Frankfort, so he founded DCR.NET in Frankfort, Kentucky in February, 1996. Nearly five years later, DCR.NET has access in a coverage area about 50 miles out from Frankfort in all directions, covering most of central Kentucky. DCR provides dial-up Internet access, DSL Internet access, dedicated T1 Internet access, and beginning in December will be the first local Internet Service Provider in the United States offering cable Internet access (in cooperation with the Frankfort Plant Board). Drew Curtis is also President of the Kentucky ISP Association. |
